Two quotes for the same yard can describe two different jobs. Before you compare the numbers, make sure you are comparing the same work, the same visit schedule, and the same rule for when something goes wrong.
Local option: New Plan Care gives families in the St. Louis area in-home help so a parent can stay home: companionship, help with bathing and dressing, meals, and overnight care. Call (314) 405-0887.
Write the job down first
Make a one-page list of what the yard actually needs: mowing, edging, leaf or debris removal, bagging or mulching, trimming shrubs near the walk, and moving trash cans to the curb and back. Add the days that matter. If a home visit, a delivery, or a family visit lands on certain days, the crew needs to finish before those days, not during them.
Put every quote on the same questions
Send each company the same list and ask for written answers. Ask:
- How often do you come, and what happens to the visit day when it rains?
- Are edging and cleanup included, or billed as extras?
- Is the quote per visit, per month, or per season, and what counts as the season?
- Do you repair bare patches or reseed, and is that in the quote?
- Who do I call when a visit is missed, and how quickly will you come back?
- How much notice do you need to cancel, and can I pause the service for part of the year?
- Are your crew members insured, and can you send a certificate?
A quote that answers these in writing is easier to compare than one that answers them by phone.
Ask what a bad week looks like
Ask what they do when three days of rain stop the mowing. Good answers name a make-up visit and a date. Vague answers leave you calling again to chase the answer, which is one more task on a week with no spare hour. Also ask how they get into the yard: a gate code, a side door, or a key kept by someone. The entry rule belongs in the quote, not in a text message after the first visit.
Compare the schedule before the total
A lower number for fewer visits may leave you chasing a stranger every week. A higher number for a reliable weekly visit may be the one you stop thinking about. Pick the quote whose visit schedule matches the house, then compare the totals.
